Hello Holy Spirit Middle School!

Welcome to the middle school history blog!

Mr. Hyatt has taken over teaching the 8th grade and is currently teaching about the rev. war and all the issues that came with the war.  He has also assigned the book The Year of The Hangman.  A great historical fiction book about what would have happened if the English won the war.

In 7th grade we are finishing up our Egypt unit, and in 6th grade we are learning about the Persian war between Greece and Persia.   We will have a paper ball fight to recreate one of the battles on Friday.

I have posted the DC picture contest rules on the 8th grade class pages.  All pictures are due 4/30.
Today I passed out information for Student Council elections to 6th and 7th graders.  We will hold elections this May for the 2012 - 2013 school year.

Only 8th grade has history class today, 7th grade is on a field trip.

April 10th - 13th

We leave for DC on Monday.  8th grade is preparing themselves for this trip by presenting their projects and mapping the way!

7th grade is working on the Middle East project all week.  This week they are doing research only (100 facts is the goal).  They will need to work on this at home next week while I am gone.  It is due April 24th

7th grade portfolios are due Monday April 23rd - there will not be any after school work sessions due to student council meetings and the DC trip.  Please email me with questions.

6th grade is working in the Renaissance in class.

Tomorrow the 8th grade is participating in Connor Prairie's North Star program.  They will need to come to school in their school uniform for mass, and then they will change into jeans and t-shirts after mass.  They must bring a SACK lunch.

ISTEP Week

This week is ISTEP week thus the homework will be light.
6th and 8th graders do have a small quiz on Thursday but we will spend A LOT of our in class time reviewing and studying for it.

Please make sure your students are at school this week from 8:15am - 10:45am every day!

Reverse Raffle Basket

This letter is to ask for your help with the C.Y.O. Reverse Raffle Basket. Each class helps donate items that will be put in a basket and represent each grade to be sold on Raffle night. The Reverse Raffle is a BIG fundraiser for CYO athletics. This is an adult event where you can expect catered food, drinks, and fun. Look for ticket info soon and join us on Saturday, February 11th from 630pm-11pm at Holy Spirit School. The Room moms are responsible for making a theme and collecting items for the basket.   Our basket theme will be: Winter Fun Basket ideas/items needed: sleds, scarves, ski gloves, thermal wear, ski bibs, hot chocolate and mugs, hand warmers, boot socks, electric blanket, snuggies, ski goggles, Paoli or Perfect North gift certificates/passes. Please send the items to school with your child marked CYO raffle basket and Peggy Whitsett’s name on it or give a monetary donation and we will shop for you. All items/money need to be to school by Friday, February 3rd. Please contact the room moms with any questions.

Riley Day

The school looked great today in all RED!  Our guest speaker today was awesome and did a really good job showing all that Riley does.  Remember that the homeroom with the most coins wins a dress out day :)
